Bulletin No 1: April 22nd – 26th 2011 MG Car Club Newcastle takes great pleasure in welcoming MG enthusiasts to sunny Newcastle in 2011! Believe it or not it has been 11 years since our Club last hosted the National Meeting. We will be following the format of previous Nat Meets with the full range of competition and social events over the Easter Weekend, which falls late in 2011 and is at the end of NSW School holiday period (Anzac Day falls on Easter Monday). So why not come a little earlier (if bringing the children) or stay a little later (avoiding the stampede of tiny feet) and sample the wares of the beautiful Hunter Valley. The days should be fine and the nights cool. All of our social activities will be based at Club Panthers which is in the heart of Newcastle, starting with Registration & Scrutineering. As this is a licensed Club, visitors will need to sign in each day. The Bistro will be open on Good Friday for meals and snacks. We will be holding the Rocker Cover Racing at the Noggin n Natter Night on a track that promises to be state of the art! So get working on those machines. Rocker Cover specifications are in the information bag. The Concours will be held on the Newcastle Foreshore – close to the beaches and historic areas. There is a historic road tram doing laps of the city and if we are lucky the mall markets will be on that weekend. Saturday Night will be time to break out your best gangster look and bring your favourite lucky charm, there’ll be games and dancing a plenty. Some may have heard about a plan by a local consortium to build a race circuit close to our Ringwood Hillclimb complex. Wouldn’t that be great! But at this time we have no way of predicting if this will be realised by next Easter. Stay Tuned. So we continue with Plan A – Hillclimb at our track. The Ringwood Motorsport Park is in Italia Road Balikera approx 12 km north of Raymond Terrace – about 30 - 35 minute drive from the middle of Newcastle. We are still finalising plans for the Motorkhana. Many venues that we have used in the past few years have become inaccessible. But we still have a few options to follow up. 2 The Observation Run (Competition) will take in the wonderful country side of the Williams River to Clarencetown before heading across to Branxton and the vineyards region. It will be approx 120 km of good (sealed) roads. We will also be running a strictly social Kimber Run. There were many suggestions made at the 2nd delegates meeting last October re possible changes that could be introduced at Nat Meet around class structure and trophies. At this stage we are not aiming to change the current class structure. Some final decisions will depend on this year’s delegates meeting. The only change to the social venue will be for the Farewell breakfast on Tuesday 26th April, when we thought we would be a bit more relaxed and welcome those staying to our Clubrooms and surrounding park. The Delegates meeting will also be held here. Accommodation: There is a list of accommodation options in the information bag. This is not an exhaustive list and no rooms have been reserved. We recommend you discuss your Club’s needs with Newcastle Tourism or directly with the venue. Most have websites that provide additional information. If you find a motel that isn’t listed and you want some local knowledge please contact one of the organising committee for the inside goss! before going ahead and booking. Program of Events: The following events are being planned
Organising Committee: Members of the organising committee are always happy to provide information and answer your questions
Talk to one of the Newcastle members over the weekend (look for the bright regalia shirts). We look forward to seeing you in 2011
