PRESIDENT’S REPORT
July 2010

Wet
weather certainly quietens down outdoor sports and our club Motor Sport
activities have suffered accordingly we lost our Elimination Regularity
Hillclimb (RH) and had to postpone a Khanacross as well.
Last
month I wrote partly a “Fairy Tale Story” to see if anyone was actually
reading these reports in our magazine. Well someone did and managed to get
Kenneth Atkins into serious trouble. His wife Kimberly was keen to compete
in the event and after reading the “Fairy Tale” took Kenneth to task because
he had told her the event was cancelled – my apology Kenneth.
After a recent
hillclimb, within the
MacLean Racing Formula Clubman
Team, as a result of Martin Hobbins
getting the better of Jack Wightman,
Jack has challenged Martin to have a drive in his Nissan Skyline in a
Khanacross at the upcoming Ringwood event on the 11th
July. Just shows there is
strong competition within the clubs as well as in Formula 1 Teams.
We have just had the
first organisional meeting for the preparation of this years’ Mattara
Hillclimb. There was an excellent turn up all keen to make sure this event
will be better than last year. Just a couple of ideas from that meeting:
1.
Instead of expensive, cluttering
trophies we should present the winner a fancy Result Certificate and also
receive Prize Money. (That was the case in our early events, and it was
quite a thrill to actually win money from a Motor Sport Competition.).
2.
An idea to have an outdoor screen
located on the island of the Hairpin with live action showing the cars
driving up into the Pinch, out and through the Hay bales. (the same view
that the selected few Official get) and then the cars come into view to the
spectators sitting above the hair pin.
Instead of having a
Top Ten Shootout, drivers on their second and third runs will nominate a
time which is announced, when the run is completed that time is then
announced and the competitor closest to his nominated time also wins CASH,
(you don’t have to be the fastest to win money).
All of this from the
first meeting, this will be costed to see if it is viable. There will be
plenty of interesting work for many.
This year will also
give you an opportunity, to those who have missed out in previous years, to
officiate on the competition days. This has come about due to the fact that
twenty of our regular officials will be at a three day Supersprint event at
Wakefield Park. Don’t sit back and think that
someone
else will do it as they will be at Wakefield
Park. Your help
will be needed
and adequate training will be organised for you.
Don’t forget the
Daydawn Electrical
State Hillclimb at Ringwood at the end of the month Saturday 31st
July and Sunday 1st August. Could be a good opportunity to see what
officiating, announcing etc is all about in preparation for Mattara.
Remember, support
the supporters who support your sport.
